What is Muharram?

Muharram is a holy month for Muslims all over the world. It is a time to remember the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who gave his life for truth and justice at Karbala.

This month, we do not just grieve - we act.

The Thirst of Karbala

Before the battle of Karbala, the enemy blocked access to the Euphrates River. For three days, Imam Hussain (AS), his family, and his companions had no water. Children were thirsty. Women were thirsty. The righteous suffered - not because water did not exist, but because it was taken away from them.

The word "Al-Atash" means "I am thirsty." It is a cry that still touches every heart that loves the Ahlul Bayt (AS).

“The best charity is to give water." [1] This Muharram, build a water hand pump as Isal-e-Sawab (Īṣāl ath-Thawāb) for your loved ones and bring life to a needy community.”

Why Water is the Best Gift This Month

Our scholars and elders have always said that one of the best ways to honor Imam Hussain (AS) during Muharram is by giving water to those in need.

This is more than a tradition. It is a reminder of the lessons of Karbala. When we provide clean water to a family, we show that we remember the suffering of Imam Hussain (AS) and his loved ones. We also help ensure that others do not experience the same hardship.
Giving water is a simple act of kindness that carries a powerful message of compassion and humanity.

The Reality - Many People Still Have No Clean Water

Today, more than 700 million people around the world still do not have access to safe and clean drinking water. In many communities across Pakistan, Africa, and South Asia, families struggle every day to meet this basic need.

Children often become sick after drinking contaminated water. Women spend hours walking long distances to collect water for their families. Many communities continue to face serious health problems caused by unsafe water sources.

The need for clean water remains urgent, and millions of people still require support..

What Your Donation Can Do
